An annual University honors competition in the basic sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy and Microbiology. This written competition is open to students, graduates and faculty members. There is only one award (Laurent) offered in each category presented for outstanding achievement demonstrated by the highest scoring entrant.
An annual University honors competition examination for teacher of Dissection. First student in history of University to hold faculty position.
Externship awarded to Hotel-Dieu University Hospital. At the completion of the third year of medical school the top fifteen students are awarded "Externship" status. These students practice on patients in the University Hospital. The remainder of the medical class will not have the opportunity to treat patients until their fifth medical year, and that will be outside of the University setting in private hospitals and clinics. Only those with Extern status will be able to compete, in their fifth medical year for the title and position of "interne."
A ten day oral, written and practice examination is held for the fifteen Externs. The first five place winners are awarded the position of "interne", and continue their private studies at the French Faculty of the Medicine. The remaining students must go into private hospitals. The first place winner is awarded the title of Major d'Internat, and is responsible for supervising the work of the externs and interns in the University program.
