WHAT IS 
BONE DENSITY

SCREENING?

  • Bone density screening is performed every two years to evaluate for osteoporosis and to assess response to treatment.
     

  • Osteoporosis or low bone mass (osteopenia) occurs in approximately 53 million American men and women, accounting for 55 percent of the population age 50 years and over (Uptodate.com)
     

  • It is important to screen for osteoporosis to prevent fractures and assess for fracture risk.
