Rochester EECP Center
The Rochester Medical Center's EECP CENTER
opened in March 2001. It continues to earn the confidence and support of
physicians and referral medical centers due to its oustanding OUTCOMES.

What is EECP?
Enhanced External Counter Pulsation, EECP is a
remarkable new therapy for angina patients according
to recent clinical trials. The Major
Medical Centers in
the United States have embraced this therapy and have
opened
their own EECP Centers making this innovative
procedure available to
their patients. The Mayo Clinic
has been the leading institution in the USA with
the
largest registry of patients undergoing this therapy with
remarkable
results.
How Does It Work?
EECP
uses no medications or interventions such as
angioplasty or bypass surgery to
provide relief of symptoms
of angina and ischemia due to lack of Oxygen to the heart muscle. The benefits of EECP derive from its
ability to
create new blood vessels in the heart, a process called ANGIOGENESIS.
This Natural Bypass
happens as
blood in the lower extremities is pumped
back at high pressures to feed the
heart muscle using lower extremities
cuff inflation. This is synchronized with the EKG during Diastole, when the
heart is resting.
In addition a complex build up of Neurohumoral Factors, including growth
hormone (GH) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), contribute to
the development of Angiogenesis during this therapy. This will allow the
heart muscle to get the missing oxygen it needs to function properly.
What are its Benefits?
The major advantages of EECP include
the
non-invasive nature of this therapy, and the lack
of any significant complications
associated with it.
The overwhelming success of
the RMC EECP Center
relies on its results in improving patients symptoms,
quality of
life and ability to increase their daily activities.
