VIRTUAL
COLONOSCOPY
| Since this procedure was introduced in the last few years, virtual
colonoscopy has been considered as a research study because of its lack of
ability to detect very small polyps. Now with the 16 slice multi-row detector CT Scanner, this is no longer true.
A recent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine on December 4,
2003, performed by the National Cancer Institute, the Department of Radiology at
Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC, and the National Naval Medical
Center concluded that virtual colonoscopy with the use of a three dimensional
approach is an accurate screening method for the detection of colorectal
neoplasia in asymptomatic average risk adults and compares favorably with
optical colonoscopy in terms of the detection of clinically relevant lesions. |

Virtual colonoscopy:
 | Minimizes discomfort |
 | Is noninvasive without the risk of surgery |
 | Requires no anesthesia |
 | Is more cost effective |
